We are Boy Scouts of America Cub Scout Pack 2, chartered to Northwest Hills United Methodist Church, serving families in Austin's Northwest Hills neighborhood and Doss Elementary.

Camp at Camp Mabry! March 29-30, 2014

Come have a fun weekend with fishing, Capture the Flag, a visit to the Texas Military Museum and a chili cookoff/pot-luck supper when Pack 2 returns to Camp Mabry March 29-30, 2014. We'll be camping out in a little pocket of the countryside, tucked right in the city, on post at the Headquarters for the Texas National Guard. Campout cost is $10 per person, which includes the cost for Sunday breakfast.

Please enter Camp Mabry's Main gate on the north side of W. 35th St., near its intersection with Pecos. Adults need a photo ID.

Scouts should bring their rod, reel and tackle box to try their luck at landing a bass, rainbow trout or perch at one of Camp Mabry's renowned fishing lakes. Fishing gear will be provided if you need some. Adults may fish but require a Texas fishing license. Kids don't need a license. All fishing on post is catch and release.

After the enthusiastic response to our Thanksgiving pot-luck dinner at Camp Mabry in November, we plan to have another, this time featuring a chili cookoff! Fix your favorite "bowl o' red" or make it at home and bring it out to warm up. Turkey chili, vegetarian chili and Yankee chili with beans are fine (even though Texans know they're not the real deal.) Non-chili cooks may bring another side order, or perhaps make a "heavy metal" dish in a dutch oven, like stew, biscuits, or cornbread.  We will also have a cobbler contest.  Local celebrity judges will be on hand for the competitions.

On Sunday morning, breakfast tacos, coffee and cocoa will be provided by the pack. 

We welcome your entire family to camp out, but if Mom and the siblings don't want to sleep in a tent, at least come out for dinner and stay for our Ceremonial Campfire. Our Scouts will treat us to great skits and jokes, we'll sing some songs, tell ghost stories and howl at the moon a little. Bring a lawn chair and flashlight for each person.

A visit to Camp Mabry would not be complete without a visit to the Texas Military Museum. You'll see artifacts dating back to the Indian Wars of Texas, as well as the Spanish-American War; wagons, tanks, aircraft, weapons and uniforms from WWI, WWII, Korea and Vietnam. Through the museum's window on the past, our Scouts can see that the price of freedom doesn't come cheap. Thanks to Pack 2 Committee Member Lt. Col. Doug O'Connell for inviting us back to Camp Mabry, and for his service to our country.

Scout Sunday at NWHUMC 2/9

This Sunday, 2/9, Pack 2 will join Troop 3 and the members of Northwest Hills United Methodist Church in worship at the 11:15am service. We do this in recognition of our close association with the church, who charters both the Pack and the Troop and thus gives us our legal existence, and in honor of the birthday of Scouting.  You don't need to be a member of NWHUMC to attend - everyone is invited.  The service lasts about an hour.

Our Scouts and families are invited to arrive by 10:30am to enjoy some cobbler courtesy of Troop 3, and for brief training to usher and hand out bulletins.
Scouts should wear their Class A+ uniforms (shirts, neckerchiefs and slides, belts, pants, awards) and look as sharp as possible.

Feb 9 Pack Meeting: Blue & Gold Banquet, Crossover... & Cake Contest!

We have an exciting Pack Meeting coming up on Sunday Feb. 9 from 4 - 6 p.m. as we celebrate Scouting's birthday with our annual Blue & Gold Banquet. Many of our younger Cubs will earn their Tiger, Wolf and Bear badges. Our Webelos II's will cross over to Boy Scouts. Two Boy Scout troops will be represented to welcome the boys. We have a great slide show to share. Be sure to wear your Class As and look sharp!

Following the short ceremony, we will have a CAKE CONTEST.  Here is where you come in!
Please consider bringing a cake using one of the following themes:
Most Cub Scout-Themed
Most Creative
Tastiest Looking
Each boy will get to vote for his favorite cake in each category. At the end, we will auction off the winning cakes and proceeds will go to Friends of Scouting. We will then dive in and let the boys eat cake. Thanks to Roni Divine for helping with decorations and the voting process.
Speaking of Friends of Scouting, we are wrapping up our campaign. If you haven't had a chance to donate, please go to http://bsacac.kintera.org/donate. 300 Pounds of Food collected for Scouting for Food

Thank you to all Pack 2 families for your generous food donations to our annual Scouting for Food collection.  Pack 2 collected 300 pounds of food, which will be delivered by some of our Tiger Scouts and leaders later this week.  Scouting for Food's collection is included in the nationwide Souperbowl of Caring collection program, the results of which will be announced during the Super Bowl next weekend!

Attention Pack 2 Webelos!

Are you looking for a fun time? Want to help plan some Scout trips? You are invited to Troop 3's Annual Planning Session Lock-in, which starts at 5:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 13 and ends at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 14. At Lock-in, the Scouts decide our activities for the upcoming year… our campout themes, what meetings to have, and where we will go camping.
