Cub Scouts

We are Boy Scouts of America Cub Scout Pack 2, chartered to Northwest Hills United Methodist Church, serving families in Austin's Northwest Hills neighborhood and Doss Elementary school.

For more information about Pack 2 and Cub Scouts in general, please contact our den leader, Jason Rios, or attend our annual Angry Birds Recruiting Event, held at the Doss Elementary blacktop area on Sat, Aug 20, 2016, from 10am - 12pm.  See the Pack 2 Registration page for more details.

Pack Meeting This Sunday, 10/23/16, 3 - 5 PM

Posted on Oct 19 2016 - 1:49pm
Pack Meeting This Sunday
Here is a friendly reminder that our next Pack Meeting is this Sunday, 10/23, from 3 - 5 PM at NWHUMC. Our Bear Dens are putting on a "Bear Carnival" for the Pack, so it should be a lot of fun! The meeting likely will not last the full two hours. As a reminder, our events are not drop-off activities, so please make arrangements to have an adult with your Scout at all times.
Doss H'Owl Clean-Up Service Project
Pack 2 will again clean up after the Doss H'Owl this year as one of our service projects. If you are planning to attend the H'Owl on Sunday, 10/30, please also make arrangements to have your Scout stay after to help clean up.
Guadalupe River State Park Campout
I have opened the Guadalupe River State Park Campout for registration. The campout is November 5th and 6th. We reserved 15 camp sites, and each site can hold a maximum of 8 persons and/or 2 tents. If you plan to attend the campout, please register ASAP so that we know how close we are getting to reaching our reservation capacity. Cost is $15 per person to cover the camp site, food, and s'mores. Each adult (person 13 years or older) must pay $7 at the gate to get into the park. That fee is not covered in the $15 event fee.

4th of July Parade - NWACA

Posted on Jun 23 2016 - 2:12pm

The NWACA 44th Annual 4th of July Parade is less than two weeks away. Pack 2 will lead the parade as we have done for years, and our Arrow of Light Scouts will perform the opening flag ceremony. This is a great honor for us to represent Scouting in our neighborhood and to celebrate our nation's independence together.
The route is a little different this year due to anticipated construction on Far West. The parade starts at 9:00 AM at 4302 North Hills Drive and ends at Doss Elementary where we will enjoy fun events, drinks and snacks at Freedom Fest. Please arrive at the starting point at 8:30 AM. I believe Boy Scout Troop 511 has invited several veterans to join them on their float, so please arrive early so that our Scouts can meet these American heroes, shake their hand, and thank them for their service.
Scouts and leaders should wear their Class A uniforms.
New Tiger Parents
For those new Tiger parents who have started following our activities on the Pack 2 site, if your son is planning to join Pack 2 this year and you want to walk with us in the parade, please do! If you want to purchase your son a Class A uniform for the parade (completely optional for you at this point), you can do so at the Scout Shop in the Frank Fickett Scout Training & Service Center on Parmer Lane and I35. Information about the uniform is available in this PDF. The Scout Shop staff can also help you. The main things your Scout needs are the shirt, neckerchief, neckerchief slide, and patches. Many Scouts also get a cap and a belt. We have not assigned Dens yet, so don't get a Den number patch. If cost is a concern, scholarships are available, so please don't let cost prevent your son from enjoying Scouting.

Please contact Jason Rios if you have questions or need more info.

Hope to see you there!

April Campout - Still Time To Register

Posted on Apr 7 2016 - 2:39pm
Final 2015-16 Pack 2 Campout April 15 - 17.  Registration Still Open!
Please register ASAP so that we have an accurate count and can hire the right number of lifeguards:
Due to a reservation conflict at HEB Foundation, we have moved the campout to Bear Creek Scout Reservation just outside of Kerville. This is a beautiful campground and facility managed by the Alamo Area Council (San Antonio). See the following link for more information:
The campground is right on Bear Creek. Activities will include swimming, canoeing, fishing and hopefully archery and BB guns. We are working on the arrangements for archery and BB guns now.
Cost is $30 per person, which will cover the cost of the campground, facilities, canoes, lifeguards and food.
Please read the event information on the Pack 2 site. There is critical information about swimming certifications that must be obtained by all Scouts and parents that want to swim without a personal flotation device. If you don't have the certification, you must use a PFD while on or in the water.
We also need some parents to serve as "lookouts" to provide a second pair of eyes overseeing aquatics areas. This is a BSA requirement. Each lookout will be asked to monitor the creek and water activities for 1-2 one-hour sessions. Lookouts must take Safe Swim Defense, Safety Afloat, and Weather Awareness online training prior to the campout.
This should be a great weekend for our Scouts and families! Please sign up, and let me know if you have questions. I'll update the event information as I have new updates.
